Major milestone for Vacations For Veterans
One of the great charities that we support, Vacations For Veterans, recently reached a pretty big milestone. They surpassed 1000 vacation homes donated. One of the things that helped push them over this milestone was being featured on NBC. You can view the video of the NBC Making A Difference segment here. Please take a look at the video as it really shows the great things that they are doing for injured veterans.

Their growth is very exciting and I really want to do more for them. If you own a vacation rental please consider donating a week in your property. Even if it is an off-peak week, they are more than happy to take that donation. If you don't own a vacation rental and would like to donate funds you can also do that to help support their cause.

If your vacation rental is listed on Meaningful Vacation and you donate time to Vacations For Veterans let us know. We are working on how to do a special promotion of your property. Don't have your property listed with Meaningful Vacation, what are you waiting for? List your vacation rental today!

First Iowa vacation rental in Clear Lake
We recently added our first Iowa vacation rental. As we add properties in new areas we will be doing something to highlight that area. The owner of our first Clear Lake vacation rental was nice enough to write this post for us highlighting some of the great things to do in Clear Lake, Iowa and the surrounding area.
Clear Lake is so much fun and has an abundance of small town charm. There are so many things to see and do. The 4th of July is of course a main attraction in Clear Lake in the summer. The town is bustling with activities: a carnival in City Park, fireworks on the lake, the parade down Main Street, and an old fashioned ice cream truck that comes all around the town unexpectedly.

The lake itself is beautiful. You will see fishing boats, tubing, knee boarding, boogie boarding, skiing, jet skis, pontoons, people swimming at the beaches, ice fishing in the winter along with snowmobiles and a kite festival. In December, Christmas by the Lake is very fun. Hot cocoa is provided for everyone, horse drawn carriage rides, visit Santa, crafts, musical shows and many other activities.

Main Street has quaint restaurants, a variety of antique shops, coffee shops, Lake Theater with movies for $4, the art museum, an old fashioned soda fountain, 2 playgrounds in City Park, City beach with fountains to play in and lifeguards on duty, the band shell with great music and so many festivals and shows throughout the year, there are too many to mention.

Some favorite restaurants are, Gejo's Pizza located by the park, Cookies etc., Cabin Coffee, The Musky and a great little diner in Ventura just a few miles around the lake called, The Viking with the best ice cream for miles.

Kids and adults will love Fort Custer Maze located near the Interstate in Clear Lake. There is a new path to figure out every time you go and the kids love to see who finishes getting through the maze first.

If you want to venture into Mason City, there are so many things to do. The Music Man Museum is a must, the Frank Lloyd Wright house tour, Birdsells' old fashioned ice cream shop, a nice sized mall with a theatre, East park, and just walking around the historic homes along the river.
